Who is Grate Contracting?

Grate Contracting L.L.C. is Rich Grate’s design-build company. He has been in the trade since 1985 and created the company in 1991. The shop is based in Spokane Valley and works across the Inland Northwest.

What do you actually take on?

Kitchens, bathrooms, decks, additions, and general remodeling. Custom homes and cabins are in the gallery from Colorado. They are not advertised as local inventory.

Where do you work?

Spokane, Spokane Valley, and Liberty Lake in Washington. Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, and Hayden in Idaho, inside a two-hour North Idaho drive. St. Regis, Paradise, Plains, and Thompson Falls in western Montana, inside a two-hour drive. There is no Kalispell office.

Are you licensed?

Licensed in Washington and Montana. Idaho registration is in progress. We do not print registration numbers on this site.

Do you offer a written warranty?

There is no formal warranty program. Rich stands behind the work and comes back if something is wrong.

Do you offer financing?

No. We do not partner with a lender and we do not run monthly-payment widgets.

How do estimates work?

The bid is itemized. If the scope changes, the extra is priced in writing before that work starts. Peggy Johnston’s note on this sits on the estimates page because it is the point.

What are your hours?

There are no posted shop hours. Rich replies within a day, including evenings and weekends.

Where is the office?

We do not publish a street address. This is a service-area company. Rich comes to your house.

Is the work on this site from Spokane?

Accepted Answer

No. The published photos are New Jersey and Colorado jobs, labeled by state. They are here because they are Rich’s work. We will not caption them as local.

Will we live in the house during construction?

Accepted Answer

Usually. Dust containment and a clean workspace are part of the job. The old process still holds: treat the house as if it were ours.
